The Pursuit Of Happiness: Embracing Your Authentic Self
Updated: Sep 14, 2023
My whole life I’ve been wondering what true happiness is. After years of looking for answers, I discovered that one thing I am sure of is that happiness is the joy we feel when we live our Authentic life and purpose. Happiness is the complete acceptance of who we really are and life we are meant to live.
When we live a life others expect us to - we are not happy. There is a sense of missing out on something. It could be that we are missing out on life we are meant to live basically.
Sadly we are all being conditioned to live the way others expect us to. Discovering and accepting our Authentic Self and our Human Design blueprint can bring us closer to happiness. This process of accepting who we really are is incomparably rewarding.
In my pursuit of happiness I could easily detect things that are not making me happy. So I started off with registering those and eliminating them from my life one by one. I discovered that reaching and staying in a joyful state is hard work that started with a firm decision to be happy. The decision was followed by de-conditioning and letting go of things and people that don’t serve my greatest purpose and finally series of daily practices and healthy habits.
It is very important to note that it all starts with the DECISION to be happy. I know, you are probably going to say, but of course everyone wants to be happy, who doesn’t ? Funny enough some people prefer to stay in their state of despair, sadness, fear as it gives them some sense of identity. Just like Grumpy in the Snowhite prefers to stay grumpy as that emotion defines him, people identify with their pain or resentment and often are afraid of letting go of those feelings as they give them something people recognize them for. I see that a lot in Serbia and Ex Yu countries where people accumulate a lot of collective pain, sadness and resentment due to war and injustice and it can be hard to let go of. Just like some won‘t stop wearing black clothes for decades after loosing their beloved ones. It’s almost as if they would feel guilty or ashamed for not feeling sad anymore.
They say your true work in life is keep lifting your frequency as everything in life is a result of the vibration you are on. I can only share some steps and practices and methods that helped me raise my frequency and here are some:
Deciding to be happy - I already mentioned this one earlier and I will time and time again, as it is important that you make this decision every morning you wake up. It is enough to quietly remind yourself that you ARE happy.
De-conditioning - this is a term we hear a lot in Human Design circles. Sadly we’ve all been conditioned to some extent to behave and live a certain way. The way our family and society expect us to. Depending on the level of conditioning, life can be extremely painful for some of us. Understanding how we are supposed to interact with our environment and honoring our Strategy and Authority is an extremely liberating and rewarding process. Embracing our Authentic life is the biggest gift we can give to ourselves and others too as everyone will benefit from us using our fullest potential.
Letting go - holding resentment is really really toxic and especially for the ones holding them. Forgive and move on with your life. Those things slow us down and life is too short too waste energy on feeling angry about someone’s behaviour and how they treated us. Forgive them as they didn’t know better. And forgive yourself for not forgiving earlier.
Choosing right relationships - Relationships that don‘t feel safe, rewarding and reciprocated are simply not good for us and walking away from those is one of biggest gifts we can give to ourselves. You can read more about this topic in my previous post. Choose people that uplift you and motivate you to become a better person.
Choosing the right job - Your job doesn‘t need to be your life or soul purpose but it should make you feel content and fullfilled.
Setting clear boundaries - this one is still really hard for me as I am a people pleaser and saying no and potentially disappointing people is still very difficult but I am working on it every day.
Cultivating acceptance - it is important to understand that happiness is a state in which we want to stay most of our time. If you refer to David Hawkin's levels of consciousness map you will find different emotions ranging on scale from 1 to 1000; shame, guilt, despair and fear being the lowest and love, serenity, joy, bliss and peace being the highest. We all have moments of fear, anxiety and shame, the trick is to accept the state we are in and bounce back into higher levels of consciousness as quickly as possible by doing or thinking of something that makes us feel better.
Telling the truth. Always. - Radical honesty is the only way you can make sure your karma is being clean. Do not lie and mislead people. We‘ve all been there including myself. It won‘t bring peace or happiness. I can guaratee you this.
Balancing my diet and alcohol consumption - this kind of goes without saying but taking care of my body really helped my soul heal as well. Excessive partying and booze did help me take the edge off but I was running away from my self and numbing my feelings. Having fun is great especially with certain people but balance is everything.
Music - they say we communicate with God through music. This is something I learned during my stay in Amazonian Jungle this year. Singing, playing instruments, dancing or simply listening to positive music creates a direct channel between us and the Divine Energy.
Gratitude - this is a huge one. Be grateful, life is a gift. It is impossible to be genuilnry grateful and unhappy at the same time. Try it and you will see what happens.
Spending time in nature - at least half an hour a day if you can. It does miracles.
Meditating, breath-work, staying in alignment and being present in the moment.
These are only some methods I feel made the biggest shift in my life. I am still discovering new ones every day. It’s a wonderful process that brings me joy. Happiness is a decision to make every moment and day count and see it as blessing. It’s a pursuit of our inner light and life worth living.
Human Design helped me discover new layers of myself, my soul and life purpose and certainly brought me closer to living a more content and joyful life.
